First 6 Weeks with a Newborn: What I Wish I Knew as a New Mom
Becoming a mom is beautiful — but those first 6 weeks? Whew. No one really tells you how raw, emotional, and magical it can be all at once.
This post isn’t from a textbook — it’s from me, a mom who cried at 3 AM, laughed while changing a diaper, and learned to function on 2 hours of sleep. If you’re in your first few weeks, here’s what helped me survive and start thriving.
1. Breastfeeding Takes Time (and Patience):
Everyone says it’s natural. What they don’t say is that it takes work. Latching, pain, oversupply — it's okay to feel overwhelmed. Talk to a lactation consultant early. You’re not failing.
2. Sleep Isn’t Linear:
Babies don’t read parenting books! Just when you think there’s a pattern, they change it. Nap when you can, and don't stress over perfect schedules. Survival mode is okay.
3. Accept Help.
Whether it’s your partner, a friend, or your mom — let people help. Ask them to bring food, fold laundry, or hold the baby while you shower. You're not alone.
4. It’s Okay to Cry.
Hormones are wild. You might cry without knowing why. Talk to someone. Your emotions are valid.
5. Celebrate Small Wins.
Brushed your teeth? Win. Got the baby to nap for 20 mins? Big win. You’re doing more than enough.
Final Thought:
Those first 6 weeks will test you, but they’ll also teach you that you’re stronger than you knew. You were made for this. ❤️
